Oscars 2013: 10 Things They Got Wrong

8. Snub: Marion Cotillard For Best Actress

A tough, competitive category as ever, and it was great to see Amour's Emmanuelle Riva show up here with a well-deserved nod. However, Marion Cotillard, who has, like Hawkes, received consistent acclaim for her turn in Jacques Audiard's stellar drama Rust and Bone was locked out of the awards process today, while Naomi Watts, who delivers an impressive performance nonetheless, took her place in the fifth slot. Granted, we're not super annoyed about this one given that Watts gives a worthy performance, but it's not quite up to the same demanding standard as Cotillard's, which sees her baring herself in an extremely vulnerable and challenging way. Cotillard certainly doesn't need the nomination - but then again, neither does Watts - yet she absolutely deserved to receive the nod anyway.
