Oscars 2014: 10 Things The Academy Can Learn From Sunday Night

4. Go All or Nothing With The Tech AwardsSci-Tech Dinner 2013 This is one of my long standing beefs with the Oscars. With all of the technical awards given out during the Oscars, they only give a handful of them out on national television. For the rest, it's off to the Scientific and Technical Awards dinner that's always held a couple days before the Oscars, and traditionally hosted a young, hot Hollywood star, as if to say "For one night, you geeks get to pal around with Chris Pine and Zoe Saldana! See! We still care!" Therein lies the rub: either you should present ALL of the tech awards on TV and look like you give a crap about them all equally, or you should do all of the tech awards at the tech awards dinner and look like you give a crap but in a limited capacity. In which case, why not televise the Sci-Tech Awards as well, so everyone can get their fair share of thanks? E! would eat this up like a Kardashian mating call, and I'm sure they could even bribe one of those nobodies to host the awards show as well. (Though maybe we'll stick to the hot, young actors. Lest we invite this sort of line delivery to an already ailing awards show.)
