Oscars 2014: 10 Underdogs Who Might Get Surprise Nominations

9. Best Supporting Actress €“ Margot Robbie (The Wolf Of Wall Street)

I get the feeling that Margot Robbie is going to owe a lot to Martin Scorsese in the years to come, as she went from relative obscurity (known primarily for roles on Pan Am and Aussie soap Neighbours) to being the prime love interest in Scorsese's latest crime epic, starring opposite Leonardo DiCaprio no less. It's fair to say that the Oscars love championing fresh talent, and this might give Margot Robbie the push over some of the other fringe potential nominees, such as Octavia Spencer (Fruitvale Station) specifically. It's also an exceptionally strong performance, and a brave one too, as Robbie quite literally bears all for the screen. The performance came very late in awards season to really merit much consideration from the guilds, but Oscar voters have had a few weeks to chew it over, and with the more wide-open nature of this category, consider it one of the more likely nominations on this list.
