Oscars 2014: 9 Hilarious Scenes From The Best Picture Nominees (And 1 That Fails Miserably)

8. Kate Grant Tells Her Family To Go F*ck Themselves - Nebraska

Next up is a scene that summarises one of Alexander Payne's greatest characters we've had the pleasure to meet on screen. Nebraska was clearly loved by the Academy; along with its Best Picture nom, it managed to nab Director, Original Screenplay, Best Actor and Cinematography. But the award love in the Best Supporting Actress category also translated into a nomination for the marvellous June Squibb. She makes Kate Grant so colourful, you start thinking you're colour-blind whenever she's not on screen. In a story about an old man's quest for fortune, which takes him on a road trip with his hesitant son, it's his pistol of a wife who chews up all the scenery. Everything this woman says is made of gold. But the one scene that sticks out, which I could watch over and over again, comes later on in the film when Woody's family starts asking for handouts. Kate walks in to set things straight saying things like: "Usually a person has to die before the vultures start circling" (Gold I tell ya!). But once the family implies that they'll go to Woody with this request, Kate's had it. "You listen real good. You can all just go f*ck yourselves. Boys, get your dad." I know Wolf Of Wall Street broke the record for the number of F-bombs, but not one of them is said with as much genuine gusto as Squibb's one and only. Best Supporting Actress indeed.
