Oscars 2014: 9 Hilarious Scenes From The Best Picture Nominees (And 1 That Fails Miserably)
2. Choke Me With That Dead Cat! - Her
Before I recently re-watched Spike Jonze's heart-melting Her, I forgot how laugh out loud funny it was in some moments. Much like Philomena or Dallas Buyers Club, Her doesn't really have any business being funny if you were looking at its subject matter on paper. It's a story about a lonely man battling depression and emotional vapidness after a recent separation. He starts to find himself again once he tries out a new Operating System that's voiced by Scarlett Johansson (she's no Siri.) But before he meets and falls in love with his OS Samantha, Theodore tries out some form of online-night-stand that can only come from the mind of Spike Jonze. And it leaves you in stitches. The setting is Joaquin Phoenix's face in the dark and it's one of the funniest moments of 2013. After tossing and turning in bed thanks to thoughts of his ex, Theo (Big Guy 4X4) calls the online service and starts talking to Sexy Kitten. Their names are just the beginning chuckles of a scene that starts off playful and ends up horrific, ludicrous and priceless. Sexy Kitten gets so turned on she demands that Theo choke her with the dead cat that's next to their virtual bed. And he's got to describe it. "The tail is so tight around your neck, and it's dead, it's a dead cat, and I'm pulling it!" I mean, the scene is just too much and not even 10 minutes in - a complete highlight.
