Oscars 2014: 9 Hilarious Scenes From The Best Picture Nominees (And 1 That Fails Miserably)

1. The Lemons Kick In - The Wolf Of Wall Street

Not only is this scene from Scorsese's Wolf Of Wall Street the funniest moment from all of the Best Picture nominees, it's hands down the funniest scene of 2013 by a country mile. If I'm being completely honest, this list of 9 hilarious scenes could have all been taken from Wolf Of Wall Street because at close to 3 hours, the film makes you laugh, cringe, and wordlessly mouth "Wow" from start to finish. The film gets a lot of hate from the more conservative groups because of how funny and entertaining it is, which to them is a clear indication that Scorsese and DiCaprio are glorifying Belfort's behaviour. That doesn't take into account all the artistic integrity that would have to be shed if Scorsese, DiCaprio and Winter told a balanced story and held back on the reality of Jordan Belfort's out of control lifestyle. The Mount Everest of these unflinching looks at the hedonistic lifestyle Belfort led is the moment that the Quaaludes called Lemons kick in. Provided by Jordan's cohort Donny (Jonah Hill) they both take some, but because they're so old it takes about 90 minutes for them to kick in and that's after Jordan's taken three. Unlike the Mark Hanna scene mentioned earlier where the laughs were created by all players involved, the Lemons scene is all DiCaprio and Scorsese. The cerebral palsy phase, the way he opens the car door, his brilliant voice over through out all of this... It's simply genius from start to finish and I'm seriously jealous of anyone who gets to watch it for the first time. And finally, the epic fail...
