Will Win: Lupita N'yongo Should Win: Lupita N'yongo Surprise Win: Julia Roberts Another certainty here- much like Best Picture, this is the category where 12 Years A Slave is guaranteed to win for newcomer N'yongo. Even if the film doesn't win Best Director, Actor or Supporting Actor, it will win here. N'yongo is great as Patsey, the reluctant subject of a vicious slaveowner's affections. The scene in which she is whipped to the bone (literally) by Fassbender's Epps could rival any scen from the best horror films, and N'yongo totally sells it. A truly deserving win. But of the other 4 nominees, it could be Julia Roberts who shocks us all and wins. Meryl Streep won't get Best Actress, but a film produced by Harvey Weinstein an George Clooney was always going to have a chance of winning something significant. This would be similar to when Mickey Rourke was all but guaranteed the Oscar for Best Actor- and totally deserved it- when Sean Penn came out of nowhere to take the award. June Scripps and Sally Hawkins will get lost in the sea of praise their co-stars have been getting for Nebraska and Blue Jasmine respectively and haven't got a hope Jennifer Lawrence won't win for the second year in a row, as good as she was in American Hustle. If anyone's going to upset the boat, it will be Roberts.
