Oscars 2015: 10 Biggest Surprises From The Ceremony

2. NPH's Guesses

Well known as a magic enthusiast, it was only inevitable Neil Patrick Harris would work some mysticism into his act. And while it was pretty absent for most of the show, it did provide a central through line with a pretty cool pay-off. A couple of days before the show, NPH made his "predictions" for the Oscars, keeping them visibly under lock-and-key for the duration of the show. Now, there was obviously going to be some trick - as predictable as the Oscars are, it takes someone with real balls to go all-in on predicting the whole lot - but few could have predicted what happened. Turns out those predictions weren't for the awards, but for the show, with some of the stranger moments (Terrence Howard completely cocking up introducing the Best Picture nominees) all part of some strange foresight trick. How he did it isn't clear. Maybe it was an extension of the previously mentioned plants, with Harris haven given the likely winners of certain awards some task to fit in their speech, then only showing the ones that correlated with the finished ceremony. Or maybe there was just some slight of hand with the envelope.
