Oscars 2015: 8 Movies That Should Win (But Totally Won't)

4. Best Cinematography

Should Win: Dick Pope (Mr Turner) Will Win: Emmanuel Lubezki (Birdman) Following his being mistakenly named 'Dick Poop' when the Oscar noms were first announced, it seems the indignity is set to continue for cinematographer Dick Pope, who has no chance of winning the Cinematography prize for his exceptional work on Mike Leigh's Mr Turner. There's no denying that Emmanuel Lubezki works wonders on Birdman, but seeing as he won only last year for Gravity, it almost seems unfair that he's now refusing to share the award with anybody else. Mr Turner is one of the undersung gems of 2014, and the most striking thing about it (aside from Timothy Spall in the lead - another one ignored by Oscar this year) is Pope's appropriately painterly visuals. Leigh's long-gestating biopic frankly deserves more attention, not least for its wondrous, sunlit aesthetic, but there's just no way that Lubezki - probably the best cinematographer working today - can possibly lose out.
