Oscars 2015: 8 Movies That Should Win (But Totally Won't)

3. Best Original Score

Should Win: Hans Zimmer (Interstellar) Will Win: Johann Johannsson (The Theory Of Everything) Interstellar may not have been perfect, but one thing that really works in the film is Hans Zimmer's bold score. Led by organ, string and electronica, Zimmer's latest sonic collaboration with Christopher Nolan is potentially the best product of their working relationship to date. Still, Nolan films have never matched the Academy's tastes, at least not as well as they do the public's, and science fiction cinema is something typically kept as a back-up in the more serious awards categories. Which is a shame, because Zimmer's Interstellar soundtrack is enormously emotive and powerful - if it had been laid over a more Oscar-friendly drama, it would have a real chance of winning. Unfortunately, it looks like Johann Johannsson's derivative, samey score for The Theory Of Everything is the one with the right momentum to win. Alexandre Desplat also has a chance - he's nominated twice, for The Imitation Game and The Grand Budapest Hotel - but Zimmer will just have to make do with the consolation prize of knowing millions of audience-goers have heard his latest and loved it.
