Ida There's not been anything close to a mainstream Foreign-Language film this year, or at least one that's eligible for Oscar contention. Which probably means the Academy will focus on prestige and momentum over quality (who actually wants to watch these films seems to be their approach). And thus Leviathan, which took home the award at the Golden Globes, will probably win. And although it's difficult to fault the Russian epic, a little part of you wishes the more tightly focused Ida, which boasts the most inventive cinematography for a film filmed in the old Academy ratio (and has delightfully got it a nomination in that category), could have a shot at the award.
