Come on, guys. Cut this guy some slack. If the Academy doesnt finally reward Leonardo DiCaprio for his stellar acting chops, he might genuinely let a bear bum him next year. Is that what they want? Hes pushed himself further than ever before as the star of The Revenant, deconstructing pelt-collector Hugh Glass to shambling mess over 156 torturous minutes, and nows surely the time for him to collect a gold statue. Theres no doubt that, if he doesnt win, the reaction would consist of utter outrage and vitriol towards the Academy. That, and a lot of memes featuring Leos disappointed face. And more naff bear jokes. Worryingly, though, its not like hes running unopposed here. As mentioned earlier, some voters might plump for Eddie Redmayne due the double whammy of an eye-catching performance and residual love from last year. Bryan Cranstons turn as blacklisted 1940s screenwriter Dalton Trumbo has received plenty of praise, too, and the Oscars always love films about showbiz. Regardless, it has to be Leos year. Can you imagine the response if Matt Damon won for The Martian? Or Michael Fassbender for Steve Jobs? Or literally any one else? Sizeable excrement would hit a heavy duty fan. Lets just hope the Academy make the right choices, so we don't have to go through all that. Theyve never got it wrong in the past, right? Which of these possibilties do you think is most likely?
