Oscars 2016: 10 Potential Shocking Upsets

8. Straight Outta Compton And Sanjay's Super Team Both Lose

By now you€™ve surely heard that, for the 2016 Oscars, all the acting nominees were white. There wasn€™t a single actor or actress of colour nominated, in the leading or supporting role categories. All the Best Picture candidates are white-centric, too, leading Twitter to criticise the Academy under the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite. If you delve a little deeper, there are a couple of minority-appreciating nominees in the smaller categories that the Academy could award with a prize and go some way towards redeeming themselves. For example, Sanjay Patel€™s wonderful Hinduism-inspired Pixar short Sanjay€™s Super Team has been nominated for Best Short Film and the hugely successful rap-culture-celebrating N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton has been nominated for Best Original Script. If both of these films lose, further showcasing the Academy Awards€™ favouritism towards Caucasian-centric cinema, the internet is bound to explode with rage. Even if Straight Outta Compton does win, it€™ll still be pointed out that its white screenwriters were rewarded in lieu of its terrific minority cast.
