Oscars 2016: 10 Potential Shocking Upsets

7. Sam Smith Wins Best Song

They€™ve already picked up a Golden Globe, and Sam Smith and his Writing€™s On The Wall co-writer Jimmy Napes could well pick up an Oscar for their Spectre theme-tune, too. If they do, the song€™s critics are bound to make big noise. I€™m among that number, and would be sure to compose a sarcastic Tweet about all the great Bond songs that have been snubbed prior especially for the occasion. Admittedly, The Writing€™s On The Wall did work better in the finished film than it did on the radio, but it€™s still one of the most lacklustre Bond tunes of all time. Smiths€™ whaling and the song€™s vulnerable lyrics fail to capture the spirit of 007, and there€™s no big juicy hook in the chorus to make up for it. Thankfully, the Academy showcased their love for Lady Gaga last year with that big Sound Of Music tribute. Perhaps she€™ll bag the award for her rendition of Til It Happens To You from The Hunting Ground. I could live with that far more happily than a Sam Smith victory.
