Oscars 2016: 10 Potential Shocking Upsets

4. Mad Max Goes Home Empty Handed

Mad Max: Fury Road is up for almost every Oscar going. All the technical ones, as well as Best Director and Best Picture. It won absolutely nothing at the Golden Globes, though, which could be a worrying sign for its Academy Award chances. There€™s certainly tough competition in every category. For Best Pictures it faces a fierce content with the likes of The Revenant, Spotlight, The Big Short, Room, Bridge Of Spies, Brooklyn and Ridley Scott€™s massive crowd-pleaser The Martian. George Miller€™s main competition for the directing gong is last year€™s winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu. That won€™t be an easy fight, especially since The Revenant will be a lot fresher in the voter€™s minds. The editing of The Big Short is garnering a lot of praise, while the costumes, makeup and hairstyling prizes could also go to The Revenant. Production Design could be where the Academy recognises Bridge Of Spies or The Danish Girl. The sound and visual effects ones could go to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Admittedly, a lot would have to go against Miller€™s fourth Mad Max film for it not win at least a couple of these battles. Stranger things have happened, though, especially at the Oscars. Need I remind you of Neil Patrick Harris in his pants?
