Oscars 2017: 8 Ups And 6 Downs
2. Jimmy Kimmel (For The Most Part)
Jimmy Kimmel seemed like a good fit for the Oscars - and certainly better than his similarly-named late-night rival for the Golden Globes - and for the most part it worked really well. We've seen plenty of times over the years that hosting the Oscars really isn't an easy job, but his dry, occasionally dark wit mostly struck the right notes.
His opening monologue was largely a success, the bringing in the tourists was an inspired move, he tweeted Donald Trump while on stage and made a number of other political references, lifted Sunny Pawar into the air for the Lion King bit, skewered those in attendance, and of course continued his long-running feud with Matt Damon throughout the night. Kimmel's easily likeable, and that really came across here, in what was a good (if not great) hosting job. Though there were a couple of issues.
