The submissions - of which there were 85 - have been whittled down to just nine movies, with a couple of surprises. Elle and Neruda unexpectedly missed out, making this category pretty open.

Toni Erdmann (Germany) and The Salesman (Iran) should be nailed-on, but from the remaining seven - My Life As A Zucchini; A Man Called Ove; It's Only The End Of The World; Land Of Mine; Paradise; Tanna; The King's Choice - the nods could go anywhere.

Likely Nominees:

A Man Called Ove (Sweden)

Land Of Mine (Denmark)

Tanna (Australia)

The Salesman (Iran)

Toni Erdmann (Germany)

NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far. A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
