5. Emma Stone Throws Shade At The Mostly-Male Best Director Slate

Emma Stone came to the stage to present the Best Director award, and threw some hilariously savage shade at the Academy for only nominating a single female nominee this year, in Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird).

Stone said, "These four men and Greta Gerwig created their own masterpieces this year", leading to an immediately rapturous response from the crowd.

Not everyone was thrilled with Stone effectively going into business for herself here, some seeing it as disrespectful to the male nominees, but she certainly made her point with cheeky impact, and still seemed excited to hand the award over to eventual winner Guillermo del Toro.
