Oscars 2018: 16 WTF Moments
6. Coco Songwriter Awkwardly Battles Oscar Play-Off Music
Songwriter couple Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez won the Best Original Song Oscar as expected for Coco's "Remember Me", and it was all going swimmingly until, after a minute of the pair speaking, Oscar producers turned on the infamous play-off music.
This music kicked in just as Robert Lopez dedicated the Oscar to his recently deceased mother, and within a nanosecond, the music feed was immediately cut off, a tragi-comic record scratch that was tough not to laugh at, even if it was also soul-crushingly embarrassing to watch.
At least the producers acted fast, but this basically just proved why the play-off music is such a terrible idea in the first place, especially when so much time is wasted on terrible comedy relief skits and military montages nobody asked for.
