What Should've Won: Molly's Game

Although it boasts a sublime, star-making performance from Timothée Chalamet, Call Me By Your Name - while very good - isn't the best adapted screenplay of the bunch.

The movie itself does suffer a little from a lack of intimacy, cutting the gay sex scene and toning down the peach scene in translating the book to the screen, but there are simply better screenplays here anyway.

Logan would've been worthy, but best of all is Aaron Sorkin's Molly's Game, which is the best, most Sorkin-y script we've had since The Social Network - and in the hands of a better, showier director, likely would've received more acclaim. It's got that trademark rat-a-tat style that allows the film's 140 minutes run time to breeze by, accompanied by humour, excitement, incredible dialogue (obviously), and it allows for showcase performances from Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba.
