Oscars 2018: 9 Ups & 8 Downs
6. Lee Smith Finally Wins A Best Editing Oscar
Australia won its single Oscar this year with Dunkirk's Lee Smith taking home the Best Editing award, which while being thoroughly deserved, basically felt like a belated apology for the Academy infamously failing to nominate Smith for the same award for Inception back in 2011.
Smith's latest collaboration with Christopher Nolan required pin-sharp precision to make sense of the film's dueling and eventually convergent narratives on land, air and sea, and Smith did a beautiful job with it.
He should've won the damn thing seven years ago, but the important thing is he has it now.
