Oscars 2018: 9 Ups & 8 Downs
5. Screenwriter James Ivory Becomes The Oldest Ever Oscar Winner At 89
Call Me by Your Name won the Best Adapted Screenplay award as expected, making 89-year-old James Ivory the oldest Oscar winner for any award in the history of the Academy Awards.
It's especially poignant for a few additional reasons, chiefly that this was Ivory's fourth nomination and first win, and considering it was his first nomination in almost 25 years, it was also likely to be his last given his age.
In his acceptance speech, Ivory touchingly dedicated the Oscar to his personal and professional partner Ismail Merchant, who passed away back in 2005 and formed the other half of their famed Merchant-Ivory production company.
