Oscars 2018: 9 Ups & 8 Downs
2. All The In Memoriam Snubs
It's an annual sticking point that the Academy makes a seemingly conscious decision to snub numerous high-profile names in their In Memoriam segment, and though they obviously can't include everyone who passed away, was it really necessary to give these names the chop?
The most egregious snubs include John Mahoney, Powers Boothe, Reg E. Cathey, Della Reese, Adam West, Tobe Hooper, Chris Cornell and Tom Petty.
The latter two are especially bizarre as Cornell was close friends with Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder - who performed the accompanying In Memoriam song - not to mention he had a song eligible for nomination this year.
As for Petty, Vedder performed a cover of his classic "Room at the Top", making his exclusion equally eyebrow-raising. Cutting names for time here seems incredibly disrespectful when you're wasting 15 minutes of the show on celebrities firing hot dog cannons, alright?
