12. Shock: On Body & Soul (Best Foreign Language Film)

The Best Foreign Language Film category is always a bit of a crap shoot as far as predictions go, but it was still a surprise to see acclaimed Hungarian drama On Body and Soul make the final five, beating out widely expected nominee In the Fade, which won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film but didn't even score a nomination here.

This makes the year's eventual winner even tougher to figure out, for though higher-profile movies like Loveless, The Square and A Fantastic Woman are all far safer bets, perhaps the clear passion for this film could see it all the way to the finish line. Stranger things have happened.
