Is this finally Roger Deakins' year? The DP picked up his first cinematography nomination way back in 1994 for The Shawshank Redemption, and he's racked up a further twelve (most recently for Sicario) without a win. With the stunning Blade Runner 2049, though, he has perhaps his best chance yet, but what about the rest of the field?

Bruno Delbonnel (Darkest Hour), Hoyt van Hoydema (Dunkirk), and Dan Lausten (The Shape of Water) are all in Oscar-friendly films and have racked up other important nominations, including Critics' Choice, BAFTA, and the America Society of Cinematographers. Two of those also nominated Rachel Morrison (Mudbound), who could become the first female to be nominated in this category. Call Me By Your Name's Sayombhu Mukdeeprom and Three Billboards' Ben Davis both have decent chances too.

Nominees:

Roger Deakins (Blade Runner 2049)

Bruno Delbonnel (Darkest Hour)

Hoyt van Hoydema (Dunkirk)

Dan Lausten (The Shape Of Water)

Rachel Morrison (Mudbound)
