Oscars 2018: Predicting All The Nominees

7. Original Song

Marshall Chadwick Boseman
Open Road Films

The past decade in this category has been dominated by Disney, Pixar, and Bond, but with only one of those in the mix this year, it's a little more open. Coco will be one of the frontrunners again, while the year's big musicals - Beauty and the Beast and The Greatest Showman - should be firmly in the mix too.

Mudbound and Marshall (which isn't in the conversation anywhere else) both have powerful original songs - Netflix should push the latter, and Mary J. Blige with it, while Common has previous form here having won for Selma. The Mystery of Love from Call Me By Your Name is a lush, dreamy number that deserves some recognition, but there is a risk of it getting lost in the shuffle.

Nominees:

Evermore (Beauty And The Beast)

Mighty River (Mudbound)

Remember Me (Coco)

Stand Up For Something (Marshall)

This Is Me (The Greatest Showman)

NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far. A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
