Oscars 2018: Predicting All The Nominees

20. Costume Design

Daniel Day Lewis Phantom Thread

A category that typically rewards period pieces, with the 1920-set Fantastic Beasts taking the glory last year, and La La Land the only modern-day nominee.

Phantom Thread, a period movie *about a fashion designer* is the clear favourite here then, with Mark Bridges being a previous winner for The Artist only adding to his chances. A few blockbusters have a good chance here too: Beauty and the Beast had some lavish, memorable design, with Belle's dress particularly likely to play well, and both Wonder Woman and Blade Runner 2049 are in with a shout (the former received a big Oscar push, and this is one of its most realistic chances of garnering a nod). Victoria and Abdul has strong period stylings and, in Consolata Boyle, a twice-nominated designer, while it's another category where The Shape of Water, with a mix of period and fantasy, will likely get some love too.

Nominees:

Consolata Boyle (Victoria And Abdul)

Mark Bridges (Phantom Thread)

Jacqueline Durran (Beaty And The Beast)

Lindy Hemming (Wonder Woman)

Luis Sequeira (The Shape Of Water)
