Oscars 2018: Who Should Win Every Award (And Who Actually Will)

15. Foreign-Language Film

On Body And Soul
Netflix

Nominees: A Fantastic Woman, The Insult, Loveless, On Body And Soul, The Square

Who Should Win

A Fantastic Woman

Starring Daniela Vega, Chile's A Fantastic Woman is a powerful effort that sees Marina, a transgender woman, faced with hostility as she attempts to mourn the death of her partner. It's an affecting story of grief and loss, centred around Vega's brilliantly nuanced and emotional performance.

Who Will Win

A Fantastic Woman

A very close race, with The Square having won the Palme d'Or but perhaps not being quite Oscar-friendly, A Fantastic Woman could well get over the line on the power of Vega alone, who was an outside bet for Best Actress. It's a chance for Academy members to be progressive too, something they might not want to pass up, but more than that it's simply a very strong story that, despite being foreign-language, has global appeal.
