Oscars 2018: Who Should Win Every Award (And Who Actually Will)

11. Visual Effects

War For The Planet Of The Apes Cornelius
20th Century Fox

Nominees: Blade Runner 2049, Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, Kong: Skull Island, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, War For The Planet Of The Apes

Who Should Win

War For The Planet Of The Apes

The franchise is overdue, after losing to Hugo and Interstellar, and it'd be deserved recognition for one of last year's best blockbusters. The effects work in the movie, which has broken new ground in motion-capture and taken how much you can put in a performance to new levels, is astonishing. Andy Serkis should be up for Best Actor for Caesar, but a Visual Effects Oscar will do.

Who Will Win

War For The Planet Of The Apes

The Academy themselves are probably aware they've ignored this for too long now, and the work in War is surely too impressive for them to pass-up. Blade Runner 2049 will probably run it close, but War is strong in the VFX department and won at the Visual Effects Society Awards, which is often a good indicator.
