Who Should Win

Baby Driver

Edgar Wright's Baby Driver was one of the most exhilarating movies of last year, and a lot of the success of the action-musical was down to the editing. Every movement, from the thrilling car chases to the superb on foot sequence, was perfectly synced to a carefully chosen song. The way it's edited together is seamless, and ensures the action and the music flow together in stunning harmony.

Who Will Win

Dunkirk

The last time this award went to a movie that didn't have a Best Picture nomination was the 84th Academy Awards, when The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo won, so Baby Driver has a disadvantage despite its obvious brilliance. That should help Dunkirk became the second war movie in a row to win here: it has that all-important BP nomination but is unlikely to take the top prize, so voters are more likely go for it here instead, especially with it being a big player in the below-the-line categories. It's hardly unearned either, with the film's use of time and sequencing of events a great feat of editing (among other things).
