Oscars 2018: Who Should Win Every Award (And Who Actually Will)
5. Adapted Screenplay
Nominees: Call Me By Your Name, The Disaster Artist, Logan, Molly's Game, Mudbound
Who Should Win
Molly's Game
It's very tempting to go for Logan here, which it's wonderful to even have nominated, but Molly's Game has been unfairly overlooked at the Oscars and its biggest strength is with its screenplay. When he's on form, as he is here, Aaron Sorkin's writing dazzles with its dialogue and wit, and this is his best since The Social Network. Everything in the movie works to serve his screenplay, and that's no bad thing: we get a film that breezes by, is sharp, smart, and gives Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba arguably their best movie roles to date.
Who Will Win
Call Me By Your Name
Like with Get Out, it's the favourite in part because it took home the equivalent award from the Writers Guild of America. Also like with Get Out, it's a zeitgeisty film that has plenty of nominations but little chance of actually winning elsewhere, meaning voters will be more inclined to go for it here. It's the only one in this category with a Best Picture nomination too, which further bolsters its chances.
