Oscars 2019: 10 Reasons Why A Star Is Born Is Definitely Not Best Film

8. Lady Gaga Is No Meryl Streep

Obviously, Gaga is an immense talent and one of the biggest star attractions on the planet. She's absolutely mesmerizing in her music videos and even won a Golden Globes for her portrayal of that crazy bisexual vampire on season 5 of American Horror Story.

But having to carry a movie for 2.5 hours is a tall order and she may have bitten off more than she can handle on this one. Sure, she comes across as believable, borrowing from her own life experiences that actually included singing for her supper in seedy burlesque clubs.

As a result, Gaga knows where Ally's coming from in both real-life struggles as well as surviving inside the viper snake pit of the entertainment industry. Unfortunately, we never quite see Gaga's complete transparency or vulnerability in her performance. It's a shame.

There's a reason why leading actors like Meryl Streep or Daniel Day Lewis stand out from the crowd and are so damn good at what they do (and also why they win Oscars REPEATEDLY) - it's because the audience never realizes that they're acting.
