Orson Welles famously wrote, directed, produced and starred in Citizen Kane, arguably the greatest movie ever made. More impressively, however, Welles pulled off this remarkable feat at the tender age of 26. Although he would lead a troubled life with many ups and downs, he left behind a legacy of rare genius.

Memo to Bradley Cooper: You're no Orson Welles, either.

Why Cooper chose to make his directorial debut with such a massive undertaking as ASIB defies any reasonable logic. Whether out of hubris or simply his hellbent desire to not sleep, he may also have lost some hair while attempting to wear all those hats.

Although the first third of the movie features tantalizing promise of a great film, the movie quickly unravels into a mess that even the ghost of Orson Welles couldn't fix. Additionally, it can't be stated enough that ASIB was Gaga's first feature film and definitely would have benefited from a more seasoned director to help extract the performance she's undoubtedly capable of giving.

Naturally, the scenes of her pouring her heart out while singing are outstanding, but probably could have been captured just as easily by a housecat with an iPhone.
