Oscars 2019: 9 Ups & 8 Downs
6. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse Wins Best Animated Film
Though Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was the easy critical and awards circuit favourite going into the Oscars, the Academy's general voting block has a historic favouritism towards Pixar, so many fans were still anxious that they'd give the Best Animated Film Oscar to Incredibles 2.
But thankfully that wasn't the case, and Into the Spider-Verse scooped the gong, becoming by far the most deserving win in the category since Toy Story 3 triumphed back in 2011.
Writer-producer Phil Lord, producer Chris Miller and Peter Ramsey took to the stage to give some brief but poignant speeches about the importance of diversity, though sadly, co-director Bob Persichetti was cut off just as he began to speak, apparently planning to pay tribute to the late Stan Lee. Boo!
