Oscars 2019: 9 Ups & 8 Downs
3. Spike Lee FINALLY Wins An Oscar
It's tough to believe that the Academy has never given Spike Lee an Oscar over the course of his storied 30+ year career, but thankfully that all changed with his Best Adapted Screenplay win for BlacKkKlansman.
Presented by a delighted Samuel L. Jackson (alongside Brie Larson), the award is pretty much a career Oscar for the legendary filmmaker, who many feel should've won Best Director way back in 1990 for Do the Right Thing, yet was inexplicably only nominated for Best Original Screenplay.
Lee sadly only ended up with the single gong, but as recognition for his contributions as one of cinema's most singular and vocal voices, it's a damn relief to see him finally given the most "important" gold statue there is.
