Oscars 2019: 9 Ups & 8 Downs
5. Green Book Wins Best Original Screenplay
You could practically see the disbelief on Samuel L. Jackson's face when he announced that Green Book had won the Best Original Screenplay Oscar, beating out The Favourite, First Reformed, Roma and Vice.
Given that all four of the other nominees had more nuanced and intelligent scripts, this set the alarm bells ringing early that audiences might be in for a Green Book Best Picture win.
As amusing as it is that the writer-director of Dumb and Dumber now has some Oscars to his name, history surely won't look kindly on the Academy rewarding Green Book over its vastly superior competition in this category.
