Oscars 2019: 9 Ups & 8 Downs
4. The Favourite, BlackKkKlansman, First Man, A Star Is Born & If Beale Street Could Talk Win A Single Oscar Each
This year's Oscars decided to "spread the love" across a lot of movies, if you will, but the unfortunate result was that a number of the year's best movies ended up going home with just a single Oscar each.
The Favourite, long considered a front-runner in many categories with 10 nominations, won only a Best Actress Oscar for Olivia Colman, surprisingly losing out on Best Costume Design and Best Production Design to Black Panther.
Elsewhere, BlacKkKlansman won just Best Adapted Screenplay for Spike Lee, First Man won Best Visual Effects but lost both sound awards to Bohemian Rhapsody, A Star Is Born's early front-runner status totally cooled off with a single win for Best Original Song (Lady Gaga's "Shallow"), and If Beale Street Could Talk scooped merely Best Supporting Actress for Regina King, with Black Panther stealing away its much-deserved Best Original Score award.
Given some of the unconvincing winners the gold was ultimately given to, it's shocking that such acclaimed movies fell by the wayside over the course of Oscar season. They all deserved more.
