Oscars 2019: 9 Ups & 8 Downs
3. Dick Miller, Carol Channing, Stanley Donen & Others Snubbed From In Memoriam Segment
As affecting as the annual In Memoriam segment is at the Oscars, it's also routinely pilloried for "snubbing" numerous actors who died since the last ceremony, and 2019 was certainly no different.
Among the more egregious and complained-about omissions were legendary character actor Dick Miller (The Terminator, Gremlins), Singin' in the Rain director Stanley Donen (who died three days before the ceremony, but that's no excuse), Oscar-nominated actresses Sondra Locke (The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter) and Carol Channing (Thoroughly Modern Millie), Oscar-nominated actor R. Lee Ermey (Full Metal Jacket) and Austin Powers star Verne Troyer.
Obviously time is a factor when determining who makes the cut, but was it really worth snubbing such acclaimed and recognisable actors for the sake of saving maybe a minute of air time?
