1. Surprise: Marina de Tavira - Best Supporting Actress

Here's the list of awards Roma's Marina de Tavira has been nominated for since the film debuted: Academy Awards - Best Supporting Actress.

That's it. And that is insane.

Claire Foy, Margot Robbie, Nicole Kidman, and Emily Blunt had all picked up nominations. Someone like Leave No Trace's Thomasin McKenzie was considered a huge outside bet. But de Tavira wasn't even under consideration, instead coming completely out of nowhere to land the nomination. It's the biggest surprise of the year and, given how great her performance is in Roma (and that it should give the film's Best Picture chances a boost), a thoroughly welcome one.
