Oscars 2019 Nominations: 13 Biggest Shocks, Snubs & Surprises
8. Snub: Timothée Chalamet - Best Supporting Actor
Beautiful Boy was completely overlooked by the Oscars, but while it wasn't expected to make much headway elsewhere, it had seemed like Timothée Chalamet was going to secure yet another Oscar nomination of his fledgeling career.
Chalamet's performance has been cited as the highlight of a film that has had mixed reviews overall, and his turn as the drug-addict teenager is very much within the kind of wheelhouse the Academy would usually go for. That's been the case throughout awards season too, with the Call Me By Your Name star racking up a slew of nominations.
It wasn't to be here, though, with the category including Mahershala Ali, Sam Elliott, Adam Driver, Richard E. Grant, and Sam Rockwell. While three of those were largely assured, it was expected to come down to a battle of the Sams for the fifth spot - with Rockwell not spoken about quite as much - but surprisingly both have got in at Chalamet's expense.
