Oscars 2019: Predicting The 10 Best Popular Films Nominees
1. Mission: Impossible - Fallout
Well, the bad news is that Mission: Impossible - Fallout won't be getting that Best Picture nomination it deserves after all. But the good news is that it will be nominated.
The Mission: Impossible franchise has never really been involved with the Oscars in the meaningful ways it should have been, but Fallout is an all-but-certainty for this category. For starters, it's the best blockbuster of the year so far and has been widely praised across the board. It's also the most successful film of the franchise thus far at the box office, meaning not only is it a sure thing for it to qualify but that nominating it would also serve the Academy's ulterior motives of boosting ratings.
And honestly, McQuarrie, Cruise, and co. deserve some kind of Oscar love. They've consistently delivered stellar results over the last few installments from a franchise that many were proclaiming dead all the way back in 2006. Their commitment to practical stuntwork resulted in some of the most breathtaking action sequences ever put to glorious IMAX film and if the Academy isn't interested in making a new category to honor the exemplary work of stunt performers, perhaps this is the next best thing.
