Oscars 2019: Predicting The 10 Best Popular Films Nominees

Though it doesn't come out until December, expect this upcoming Mary Poppins sequel to sweep the Christmas box office and a few awards along the way.

It's an adaptation of an iconic IP, in the form of Disney's beloved Mary Poppins, and features an Academy-approved cast that certainly won't hurt its chances. Between red-hot newer stars like Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda anchoring the leads, classic stars like Dick Van Dyke and Angela Lansbury returning to the big screen in supporting roles, and the Academy's all-time favorite actress Meryl Streep being in it as well, it's practically guaranteed.

On top of all of this, the movie stands a strong chance of being genuinely great. Director Rob Marshall has certainly had his fair share of misses (Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides) but he's a multiple-time Tony and Oscar-nominated director who has been steeped in the creation and adaptations of classic musicals for decades.

So this should be an easy call for the Academy, get to honor a star-studded cast and crew full of folks they already love and nominate a film that is bound to be one of this winter's biggest hits in the process.
