3. Avengers: Infinity War
Obviously.
Infinity War made all of the money in the world and captured the attention of audiences across the globe. Doing anything affiliated with Infinity War is a license to print money.
So in a year where the Oscars' ratings have sunken to new lows and the Academy's scrambling to regain some threshold, Infinity War is the most obvious choice to make. Simply nominating it will all-but-guarantee that their ratings will spike. And let's be honest; that Academy has shown their hand with the creation of this new category. It's not some inspired choice, it's solely about money. Which is why Infinity War is a lock.
It will be nice to see Marvel finally get some Oscar love, even if it is in this discounted category. The Russos and co. really did take on a gargantuan undertaking with this film and the results they delivered are, quite honestly, better than they had any right to be. They made a film with over forty central characters, paid off ten years worth of build-up, and capitalized on the various character arcs of each individual sub-franchise.
If they're not going to honor Black Panther in the real Best Picture category or give Kevin Feige an honorary Oscar for all his work in the MCU, then Infinity War and Black Panther getting nominated together in this category are probably the next best thing.
