Oscars 2020: 10 Ups & 6 Downs
2. Parasite's Historic Best Picture Victory
Though many expected Parasite to simply walk away with two Oscar wins for Best Original Screenplay and Best International Feature Film, it ended up performing well over the odds, additionally scooping a Best Director win for Bong Joon-ho and, most shockingly of all, a Best Picture victory over hot favourite 1917.
This marks the first time in the Oscars' 92-year history that a foreign language film has ever won Best Picture, a feat which many understandably expected the Academy, who were unimaginative enough to give Green Book the biggest award last year, to be seemingly incapable of.
Better still, Joon-ho went from zero Oscars to winning three in the space of a single evening, very nearly matching Walt Disney's record-setting four Oscar wins in a single night back at the 1954 Oscars.
Due to the Best International Feature award being given to the country rather than the filmmaker themselves, Joon-ho sadly scarcely missed out on matching that long-standing record.
