Oscars 2020: 10 Ups & 6 Downs

1. It Was The Most Satisfying Oscar Night In Years

At the end of the night, it was tough not to feel like the Academy had done their greatest service to cinema in many, many years this time.

There were so many satisfying wins, so few objectionable ones, and while it'd be complacent to suggest that Oscar voters might actually start trending towards more adventurous Best Picture winners like Parasite in the future, it's nothing if not encouraging.

We've seen voters pinball from left-field picks like Moonlight and The Shape of Water to Oscar-baiting nonsense like Green Book in recent years, so while it's possible we'll get another pandering "issue movie" next year, fingers are crossed that Parasite's victory might represent a major breaking down of barriers.

Whether your personal faves won Oscars or not, there was very little to be angry about at the end of the show, and a lot to be totally thrilled with.
