Oscars 2020: 15 Insanely Early Predictions For Next Year's Academy Awards

6. Best Actress: Amy Adams - The Woman In The Window

Other Nominees: Awkwafina (The Farewell), Natalie Portman (Lucy in the Sky), Saoirse Ronan (Little Women), Charlize Thereon (Fair and Balanced)

There are a lot of unknowns at this stage: if Cate Blanchett's Lucy & Desi (written by Aaron Sorkin) sneaks into 2019, then she'll be an instant frontrunner (and a lot of these predictions will be changed); it's unclear if it will be Thereon presented as Lead Actress for Fair and Balanced, but she has top billing right now; Lupita Nyong'o could get in for Us; Cynthia Erivo might be recognised for Harriet. Ronan is already an Oscars favourite, so feels nailed on for a nomination. Awkwafina has been getting a lot of buzz in her fledgling career, and The Farewell came out of Sundance extremely well, although those films can fade fast too. Lucy in the Sky (formerly Pale Blue Dot) is unpredictable, which is fitting as it comes from Noah Hawley, but if nothing else the story of an astronaut in a downward spiral should give Portman plenty to work with.

For a winner, let's pray and hope this is the year Amy Adams gets her due. She's entering the Leo stage in terms of how overlooked she's been - The Fighter and The Master are the most egregious when she's been up for an award, although even worse is that she wasn't nominated at all for Arrival - but is likely to at least get another chance next year. Joe Wright knows how to make an awards splash and get his actors gold, with Gary Oldman winning last year for Darkest Hour. Adams definitely has one of her best chances yet.
