Oscars 2020: 15 Insanely Early Predictions For Next Year's Academy Awards

7. Best Supporting Actress: Margot Robbie - Once Upon A Time In Hollywood

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood Margot Robbie

Other Nominees: Annette Bening (The Report), Cate Blanchett (Where'd You Go Bernadette?), Nicole Kidman (The Goldfinch), Meryl Streep (Little Women)

Potentially another extremely strong acting category, not mentioned above is just about everyone else in Little Women (if Saoirse Ronan is the lead, then the likes of Laura Dern and Florence Pugh could be in the mix here too), and Emma Thompson for Late Night. If any of those pick up some buzz, then Blanchett might be the one to drop out of the race here, since the others have stronger sounding films next to them.

There's also no easy winner to choose here. Streep is Streep. Annette Bening is overdue. Kidman's only win came in 2003. If the latter wins, it'll be a good sign that The Goldfinch is on its way to glory. But as it stands, I don't think Oscar voters will be able to resist Margot Robbie playing Sharon Tate. Robbie already has a couple of nominations, and playing Tate - a tragic Hollywood figure - just perfectly aligns with their sensibilities. If she nails it, then it might be hers to lose, and a boost for Once Upon A Time's own Best Picture chances too.
