Oscars 2020: 15 WTF Moments
8. Eminem's Surprise Appearance Baffles & Divides Audiences
Viewers seemed relatively divided on the presence of Eminem at a 2020 movie awards show, given that Lose Yourself was released over 17 years ago, or to give it more meaningful context, the Oscar-winning rap classic hit the airwaves just a few months after the birth of Billie Eilish.
And while the rapper certainly seemed game for an all-cylinders performance, there were a few factors that undeniably hindered him - the presence of an overly intrusive backing track, the sheer number of times his profanity was censored for the at-home audience, and the fact that Eminem himself at times struggled to keep up with his own song.
It was still fun to see the rap icon on stage, even if it was hardly a polished performance, and perhaps one that had scarce relevance for the 2020 Oscars - beyond being one of the few truly brilliant Best Original Song winners over the last two decades, of course.
