Oscars 2020 Nominations: 16 Biggest Shocks, Snubs & Surprises
8. Snub: Booksmart, Dolemite Is My Name, The Farewell & Uncut Gems Get Shut Out
Though the Academy has gotten slightly better at spreading the love among films in recent years, they still have a tendency to completely shut out several movies every year totally deserving of nominations.
The first of this year's casualties was Booksmart, which sadly didn't even land a Best Original Screenplay nod (edged out by the questionable inclusion of 1917), while Dolemite Is My Name failed to secure Eddie Murphy a Best Actor nomination nor have any of its period production recognised.
Elsewhere Uncut Gems proved too acerbic for Oscar voters despite the brilliance of Adam Sandler's performance, and most shockingly of all, Lulu Wang's The Farewell was snubbed in a number of potential categories, namely Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Original Screenplay. Oof.
