16. Shock: Parasite Gets Six Nominations, Including Best Picture & Best Director

Parasite has been enjoying an unprecedented wave of success on the awards circuit so far, achieving a far bigger wave of support for a foreign language film in major categories than any other in recent memory.

And while it was easy to be pessimistic about the Academy's ability to actually nominate the riveting socially conscious thriller in major categories, Parasite thankfully ended up landing six nominations across a number of disparate fields.

Ultimately it was nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Film Editing, Best Production Design, and Best International Feature Film.

While it remains to be seen whether or not Parasite can go further than its inevitable Best International Feature Film win, it's certainly encouraging to see the Academy nominating a foreign language film for major awards, even if they probably should've thrown it an acting nod or two as well.
